Significant disruption in the retirement planning sector has forced individuals to re-look their retirement plans to accommodate these changes. In response to this, the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) will be hosting a retirement planning conference, graced by some of the best minds in the sector, aimed at ventilating the topic in great detail and sharing some insightful and specific information and knowledge to empower both financial advisors / planners and consumers to elevate their financial planning strategies and make them fit for purpose.
Join the FPI in partnership with The Institute of Retirement Funds Africa (IRFA) and The Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) for a live online Retirement Conference sponsored by Overseas Trust & Pension (OTAP).
The full day event will be packed with valuable information to assist finance professionals in their discussions with their clients. The event will also enable finance professionals to understand the regulatory implications for retirement planning going forward.
A session dedicated to an in-depth discussion around the Two Pot system for retirement savings, which introduces government’s retirement reform proposal on preservation, will look at how this system restructures retirement savings to allow for limited pre-retirement withdrawals – where a person’s retirement savings is split into two pots (1) Accessible pot, which entails retirement fund members having access to their funds at any time before retirement, and (2) Retirement pot, which entails retirement fund members only being able to access their retirement funds at retirement and required to use the funds to buy a monthly pension.
A discussion on Retirement Reform and the member journey from Savings to Annuity will be moderated by Lesego Mpete, RFPTM. The session will feature the following panellists:
- Ryan McCaughey, CFP®
- Geraldine Fowler
- Stephen Walker
David Kop, CFP®, HOD: Policy and Engagement at the FPI, will be discussing Benefit Counselling vs Financial Advice.
Lelané Bezuidenhout, CFP®, CEO at the FPI, will moderate a discussion on Regulatory changes: Unpacking the regulatory process and the impact this has on the member journey. This discussion will feature the following panellists:

The session will also delve into aspects of product design and how this could potentially change retirement products in future.
