About the FPI Education and Training Fund Trust
The FPI Education and Training Fund Trust No. 1 is a dedicated, professionally managed trust established to transform and advance the future of financial planning in South Africa.
Our mission is to develop, support and enable the next generation of financial planners and advisers, with a particular focus on candidates who have been historically disadvantaged. We aim to ensure the profession reflects the rich diversity of South Africa and can deliver high-quality, ethical financial advice to all who need it.
What is the Trust for?
The Trust exists to fund education, training and research in the field of financial planning. Donations to the Trust are used to:
- Provide bursaries and scholarships for approved tertiary qualifications in financial planning.
- Support research that advances the practice of financial planning in South Africa.
- Assist beneficiaries with socio-economic needs directly related to their ability to complete their studies and enter the profession.
By doing this, the Trust helps identify, develop, and empower people who will drive excellence and integrity in financial planning for years to come.
Who benefits?
Our beneficiaries are talented, motivated South Africans who:
- Have been economically or institutionally disadvantaged.
- Are pursuing or wish to pursue formal qualifications in financial planning.
- Are working in or aspiring to work in the financial planning sector.
- Have the potential to make a meaningful, positive impact on the profession.
Through our structured selection and award process, we prioritise fairness, need, and the ability to contribute to the profession’s development—especially in advancing equal opportunity.
Our Commitment to Broad-Based Transformation
The Trust is aligned with South Africa’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) strategy and the Financial Sector Charter. It was established by the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) as a deliberate initiative to address past imbalances and build a sustainable, inclusive future for the financial planning profession.
Donors to the Trust are not only investing in individual students—they are helping to transform an entire profession to better serve South African communities.
Governance and Accountability
The Trust is managed by a board of trustees comprising senior leaders of the FPI. It is a registered legal entity with its own identity, capable of holding property and assets in perpetuity to serve its mission. All donations and assets are carefully managed, applied only to eligible education and training purposes, and distributed under clear rules set out in the trust deed.
Our governance ensures transparency, accountability, and lasting impact.
