4. Investor archetypes with different behaviour tax attributes
5. The 2021 investor behaviour report card for South African investors
6. Data up or psychometrics down? Which way to go?
Synopsis of webinar:
In a first-of-a-kind approach to generating behavioural insights in South African discretionary investor behaviour, unsupervised machine learning techniques are applied to a large dataset to identify behaviour patterns. The analysis revealed four distinct trends that were labelled the “Avoider”, “Market Timer”, “Assertive” and “Anxious” investor archetype respectively. When combining this analysis with the behaviour tax insights generated it is clear that different archetypes are destroying value at different times. This is particularly interesting in developing hyper-personalised nudging strategies that aim to engage with the right people at the right time with the right message. We also contrast this approach with one based on psychometrics and provide evidence that the machine learning data-driven insights definitely have a distinct “human” connection that is capturing similar long-term risk preferences that a psychometric assessment does. This culminates in a 2021 report card where we examine these behaviour patterns over turbulent pre and post COVID-19 financial markets. Join us to explore using these techniques in behavioural sciences and the valuable insights we can generate about our clients as we get to know them and ourselves a bit better.
