2024 Budget Review

The session provides a comprehensive insight into the Minister of Finance, Mr. Enoch Godongwana’s budget speech for the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

The session is two hours long and will be led by distinguished experts in the field. The aim of the session is to provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of the budget speech, including its implications and applications for the financial industry.

The session will include, Ronald King, CFP® who will take us through matters that impact Financial Planning whilst Ronald Matande will discuss issues impacting on businesses. Stephan de Wet, CFP®, who serves on our tax competency committee will moderate the session.

Speakers

 

Ronald King, CFP®

Ronald joined Sanlam Namibia as a financial advisor in 1993 and transferred to Sanlam Johannesburg as legal advisor in 1998. In 2004 he joined PSG Konsult where he is currently Head: Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs. Ronald holds a B.Com LLB, a Master’s in law from UNISA and a Master’s in Futures Studies from Stellenbosch. In 2018 he was awarded the Harry Brews award by the FPI for life-long contribution to the financial planning profession. Ronald is an Advocate of the High Court, a CFP® professional, a registered Fiduciary Practitioner of SA with FISA and a Chartered Tax Adviser with SAIT. Ronald is also an International Chess Arbiter.

 

Ronald Matande

Ronald is an experienced Accounting and Tax professional with over 15 years experience in a variety of accounting roles. He joined the FPI in 2018 as Finance Manager and is currently the Head of Operations. In this role, Ronald is responsible for the oversight and supervision of the support departments at FPI (Finance, HR, IT and Facilities) whilst providing strategic and operational support to the CEO. Ronald holds a Bachelor’s in Accounting Science degree in Taxation and he also serves on the FPI board as an Executive Director.

 

Stephan De Wet, CFP®

Stephan qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 1986. Until 1989 he worked for the South African Revenue Services where he also completed related tax specialist qualifications. In 1994 Stephan co-founded Futura and was appointed Managing Director in 1996, a position he still occupies. He has subsequently also been appointed to the board of another new entrant into the insurance administration market, Nu Nation Underwriting Managers (Pty)Ltd. In 2003 Stephan initiated and successfully managed the implementation of the black economic empowerment strategy of Futura to ensure it remains a relevant competitor. Stephan helped form and represented a black owned company, Embomini Financial Services Ltd, on the board of Unity Insurance Company, a subsidiary of the Telesure Group and the second black owned insurance company in South Africa. From 2010 to 2016 Stephan practiced as a NCR accredited Debt Counselor in addition to being a practicing Chartered Accountant and Tax Practitioner, the latter being the primary services delivered to date. He brings with him a number of expert skills, inter alia, taxation, financial and treasury management, risk management, project management, business analysis and financial services systems expertise. In 2015 he completed an Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning and in 2016 passed the qualifying exam to become a Certified Financial Planner
