Capstone: Certification Assessment Pathway
CERTIFICATION PATHWAY TO ATTAINING YOUR CFP® DESIGNATION
To achieve the CFP® designation, candidates must complete an eight-week financial plan capstone course and submit a financial plan for competency assessment. There are three assessment pathways, each linked to the timing of the candidate’s completion of the integrated case study through their education provider.
1. THE DIRECT CFP® CERTIFICATION ASSESSMENT PATHWAY
CFP® candidates who attained the integrated case study during or after 2024 must complete the following assessment requirements:
- CAPSTONE
Eight-week online professional course culminating in the creation of a professional financial plan.
- FINANCIAL PLAN
The submission of the financial plan for assessment and the determination of competency.
2. THE LEGACY CFP® CERTIFICATION ASSESSMENT PATHWAY
CFP® candidates who attained the integrated case study during or before 2023 must complete the following assessment requirements:
- MULTIPLE-CHOICE EXAMINATION
Fifty randomised questions based on theoretical financial planning knowledge. To achieve competency, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 60 %. Candidates will gain access to the learning support portal, once registered and the assessment fee is paid. The portal provides a wealth of preparation material including relevant FPI regulations and instructions, mock examination and access to recorded training webinars.
Registrations close two weeks before the examination date. New registrations and deferrals will not be considered after this deadline.
- CAPSTONE
Eight-week online professional course culminating in the creation of a professional-quality financial plan. The program is led by industry experts and integrates theoretical knowledge with practical skills.
- FINANCIAL PLAN
The submission of the financial plan for assessment and the determination of competency.
3. THE RPL CFP® CERTIFICATION ASSESSMENT PATHWAY
Candidates who hold a qualification that the FPI considers for Recognition of Prior Learning are identified as being on the RPL PATHWAY:
- MULTIPLE-CHOICE EXAMINATION
The multiple-choice examination is a four hour, 50 – mark online assessment based on theoretical financial planning knowledge. To achieve competency, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 60 %. Candidates will gain access to the learning support portal, once registered and the assessment fee is paid. The portal provides a wealth of preparation material including relevant FPI regulations and instructions, mock examination and access to recorded training webinars.
