Lindiwe Sebesho

Lindiwe is a Master Reward Specialist and an Exco member of the South African Reward Association (SARA). She holds an MBA degree, a Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law, and a Bachelor of Commerce. She has held leadership roles in various organisations and served two terms as President of SARA. Her expertise contributes to Remchannel’s focus on delivering solutions that enable clients to have total reward strategies that drive sustainable business success.

Lindiwe has extensive experience in designing and implementing remuneration, incentive schemes, performance management, and talent strategies. In 2024, she was awarded the SARA President’s award in recognition of her significant contributions in advancing high remuneration and benefits standards and advocating for fair and responsible pay practices.

Lelané Bezuidenhout, CFP®

Lelané has been in the financial services industry for over 25 years. During these years she fulfilled many roles, with her latest role being the CEO of the Financial Planning Institute. She studied at the University of the Freestate where she obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning and a Postgraduate Diploma in Investment Planning.

She is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. Her strengths are Leadership, Mentoring, Coaching, Learner and Relator which explains why she loves connecting the dots and fixing broken processes and systems.

She is a servant leader who believes in the greater good of all. Being focused, firm, but kind is the normal way she deals with complex situations. Lifelong learning is also one of her mottos as we can never know it all. Continuous professional development is critical to one’s relevance to the society we serve.

Tsungai Masendeke, CFP® | Convention MC

Tsungai Masendeke (CFP), is the founder of Moms and Money a women empowerment initiative and a director at IWCP Proventus, a financial planning franchise that prides itself as the one stop shop for all your wealth planning needs. She is passionate about financial literacy and financial inclusion, and has been featured on several platforms such as CNBC Africa, ENCA, Carte Blanche, ETV’s Morning Live, 94.7fm and Kaya FM, YFM and Metro FM.

She is a recipient of the Vessels of Honour, 2022 Entrepreneur in Financial Services Award, the 2023 Entrepreneur of the year award by the Yes We Can Organisation and the 2024 Diversity and Inclusion Award by the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa. A sought after facilitator, speaker and director of ceremonies, she excels at keeping her audience entertained and engaged while imparting valuable knowledge. Juanita Vorster

Juanita Vorster – a Certified Director®, qualified Public Relations Practitioner and Ethics Officer – is the founder and strategist of At That Point – a communication consultancy specialising in marketing professional services. She is also a leadership speaker and author known for her no-nonsense practical approach to complex issues.

Juanita navigates the worlds of traditional and social media with ease, and often trains subject matter experts how to translate their knowledge into messages that influence decisions and inspire action.

Maya Fisher-French 

Maya Fisher-French is a multiple award-winning consumer financial journalist, founder of Maya on Money, and author of Money Questions? Answered.

Maya was the personal finance editor at City Press for 15 years before recently moving to News24 where she has her own weekly column. Maya presented the popular, award-winning Money Matters show on eNCA and currently sits on the FSCA Consumer Advisory Panel.

As well-respected money expert, Maya educates South Africans through her multimedia platforms, workshops and talks to take control of their financial lives and make the financial system work for them.

Through her media presence Maya has a high level of engagement with her audience providing insight into the South African consumer. She forms an important link between the financial consumer and financial industry.

Having worked in the financial industry in private banking and stockbroking combined with 20 years as a financial journalist, Maya has a deep understanding of the world of money. Maya has an honours degree in Economics from the University of Witwatersrand.

Justice Malala

Malala is an award-winning author, political commentator, newspaper columnist and television host. He writes regular columns for Bloomberg internationally, and for the Financial Mail and TimesLive in SA. Malala’s work has been published in the Financial Times, Washington Post, The Guardian, Times of London, and many others. He is a political analyst for Lefika Securities.

In 2023, The Economist magazine said he is “perhaps the country’s most astute political commentator”.

Malala was the founding editor of the newspaper ThisDay (South Africa). Between 2007 and 2012 he was general manager of TimesMedia’s [now Arena Holdings] stable of 44 magazines. He was also general manager of The Sowetan and Sunday World newspapers.

Malala is the author of four books. The latest, The Plot To Save South Africa: The Week Mandela Averted Civil War and Forged a New Nation, was published in Canada, the UK, the USA, and South Africa in 2023. It reached number one on the SA best-seller list in April 2023. It was a finalist for the Sunday Times Alan Paton non-fiction book award 2024. It was hailed as “gripping and important” by The Guardian (UK), “trenchant” by Foreign Affairs (USA), “masterful, compelling, fast-moving” by The Conversation (Africa), while the Financial Times (UK) said it “wonderfully captures the spirit of the time”.

Florbela Yates, CFP®

Florbela Yates (Flof) began her career in November 1993 as a consultant with Alexander Forbes in the health care division. Before transferring to Investment Solutions as a senior marketing executive, she spent six years there. After 13 years with the group, she joined RMB International as the company’s head of institutional business in SA. She then joined STANLIB Multi-Manager, where she was involved in growing institutional assets, product development, and institutional reporting. She later joined Hollard Investments as an investment specialist consultant to the company’s investment team for three years. Since January 2017, Flof’s role has been as head of Equilibrium (previously Momentum Investment Consulting (MIC)) an independent discretionary fund manager in the Momentum Metropolitan group. She has a BCom (Economics, Business Finance and Marketing) degree and is a CFP® professional.

 

 

Verity Price

Verity Price is a groundbreaking figure in public speaking and innovation.

In 2005, she pioneered online crowdfunding for an unreleased album, setting a new precedent in music funding. In 2021, Verity became the first speaker from Africa and 6th women in history to ever win the Toastmasters World Championship of Public Speaking. She further cemented her legacy in 2023, when she was the first ever African to be awarded the prestigious Accredited Speaker accreditation.

With a degree in Psychology and Anthropology, Verity is also an executive education faculty member at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. Her international speaking engagements and TEDx Talks focus on helping to people to shift their thinking and present with impact and power.

 

Derek Notman, CFP®

Derek Notman, CFP®, is the Founder and CEO of Couplr AI, a fintech disruptor that’s reimagining how financial advisors and clients find their perfect match. A Certified Financial Planner® with nearly 20 years of experience, Derek built his virtual financial practice before it was cool—and then built Couplr AI to fix what he saw was broken in lead generation and engagement.

Tim Slatter

Tim Slatter is a seasoned communications consultant and the founder of Contatto, where he specialises in helping financial planners and advisers craft and deploy sustainable online communication strategies.

With a focus on personal websites, lifestyle blogs, email campaigns, and social media engagement, Tim has over a decade of experience in the financial services industry, particularly in assisting advisers to connect more meaningfully with their clients and prospects.

Tim’s approach is rooted in the belief that strong, authentic connections are key to client retention, wellbeing and business growth. His work empowers financial professionals to build and maintain an impactful online presence, enabling them to navigate client transitions and enhance client engagement effectively. Tim has hosted numerous webinars for us and spoke at our conference in 2017.

Mandy Wiener  

Mandy Wiener is one of the country’s best known and most credible journalists and authors. She currently hosts the Midday Report on 702 and Cape Talk and writes a weekly column for EWN.

With a BA degree from Rand Afrikaans University (now UJ), Mandy launched her career at RAU Radio before interning at the 702 traffic desk and screening listeners’ calls in the middle of the night. She then became a news reporter at Eyewitness News and after being held at gunpoint on her first story, she did not look back.

Mandy worked as a multi award-winning reporter with EWN from 2004 until 2014 before spending time at News24. She specialised in investigative reporting and legal matters, developing a reputation for exposing the criminal underworld.

She has won a number of National and Regional Vodacom ‘Journalist of the Year’ awards, has been ‘The CNN African Radio Journalist of the Year’ and has received several commendations in the Webber Wentzel ‘Legal Journalist of the Year’ awards. In addition, she has received the National Press Club award in the Radio Category and the Social Media category and was awarded the ‘Rising Star – Women in the Media’ award. The Midday Report won Best News and Actuality Show at the SA Radio Awards in 2023 and best Daytime Commercial Radio Show in 2024.

With over 300 000 followers on Twitter, Mandy has also broken new ground for live tweeting court cases and stories on the social media platform. She is considered to be amongst the country’s premier Twitterati. Her updates during the covid lockdown cemented her reputation.

On the writing front, Mandy was short-listed in the prestigious ‘Alan Paton Sunday Times Literary Awards’ for her book, ‘Killing Kebble’ which was a local publishing phenomenon, selling in excess of 100 000 copies. Mandy’s second book, ‘My Second Initiation’, written with former head of the NPA Vusi Pikoli, was also short-listed for the Alan Paton award. In addition, Wiener is the series editor of ‘The Youngsters’ which features several young South African voices. In 2014, she published ‘Behind The Door: The Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp Story’ with her colleague Barry Bateman. The book was released internationally and contained new, exclusive information about the trial. Mandy’s book ‘Ministry of Crime’, about organised crime and the relationship with the police, was released in 2018. Her latest book The Whistleblowers was released in October 2020 and advocates for a societal revolution in how we treat and protect those who speak truth to power in South Africa. An updated edition was released in 2023.

Over the past decade, Mandy has trained hundreds of corporate executives, including leading CEOs, on how to be interviewed and how to make the most out of media opportunities. She is also a well sought after conference keynote speaker and has spoken on numerous stages, captivating audiences.

She is mother to Sam and Ruby, has an untreatable obsession with padel, loves to walk in the Wilds with her dogs Wanda and Cherry and colour codes her home library.

Dante De Gori, CFP®

Dante De Gori, CFP, is the chief executive officer of the Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd. (FPSB), the nonprofit standards-setting body for the global financial planning profession and owner of the international CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program.

Prior to this, De Gori served as chief executive officer of the Financial Planning Association of Australia (now known as FAAA) – the financial planning professional body in Australia and seventh largest Affiliate within the FPSB Network.

De Gori has more than 20 years of experience in the financial planning profession. He’s worked in various senior roles within financial planning and compliance and served as Director of the Future2Foundation, the charity foundation of the financial planning profession in Australia from 2016 to 2021.

De Gori was awarded the Association Influencer of the Year 2022 by the Australasian Society of Association Executives (AuSAE). He holds a Bachelor of Commerce (finance and marketing), a graduate certificate in politics and policy, a diploma in financial planning, has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course (2021), and is currently completing a Master of Laws at the Australian National University.

Rizanne Oosthuisen-Botha 

Rizanne Oosthuisen-Botha is the founder and CEO of ProfileMe.app, South Africa’s top-rated Adviser Technology and Client Engagement platform. A champion for women in tech and a finalist in the ‘Women in Technology’ category at the Woman of Stature Awards, she is recognised for her strategic thinking, advocacy for digital literacy, and commitment to human-centric innovation. Rizanne’s mission is to build technology that shortens sales cycles and accelerates trust between professionals and clients — helping people do better business in ways that are not only efficient but also meaningful. Anton Swanepoel , CFP®

Anton Swanepoel, CFP® is a practice management and compliance expert with more than 35 years of experience in the financial services industry. Over the last 15 years he has served on various industry committees that aim to guide the financial planning profession. In 2017 Anton served as a member of the Expert panel that assisted National Treasury on COFI and is currently a member of the FSCA COFI Bill Transition Workgroup and the Workgroup’s Risk Management and Compliance Sub-committee. Anton holds a Master’s Degree in Mercantile Law, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State. He is a former FPI Financial Planner of the year finalist; a former compliance officer and is the author and co-author of more than twenty-five books and industry manuals on leadership, ethics, trust, practice management, financial planning, investment planning, and compliance. In 2013 Anton was awarded the Cover Excellence Award for his contribution in service to the Short-term insurance industry and in 2017 he received the Harry Brews’ Chairman’s Award for life-long, significant contributions to the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI) through promoting the FPI and its marks or the financial planning profession in the areas of service to society, academia, training, government, and the media.

Mzwandile Mtshali 

Mzwandile Mtshali is the Group Executive for Advice & Distribution at PPS. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). His commitment to continuous learning has seen him complete the Strategy and Innovation Programme at Oxford University’s business school and the Advanced Management Programme (AMP).

He joined PPS in 2018 as the Executive responsible for Advisory Services and Enablement. Prior to this, he led Hollard’s Affinity Partnership business as Managing Executive. His career trajectory also includes key leadership positions at ABSA, where he was Head of Wealth, Investment Management and Insurance (WIMI)’s consumer bank segment and Chief Operating Officer for WIMI’s Distribution Business.

His professional journey began at Deloitte as a consultant, and he later transitioned into diverse roles at South African Breweries, including Business Analyst, Information Security Officer, and Professional Services Manager.

Jacques Coetzer

Jacques heads up strategy and transformation for SanlamConnect, the distribution business in the Sanlam group (SA). A big portion focusing on solutions for financial planning and advice for the future benefit of our financial advisers (both tied and independent) built around the evolution of client expectations and the opportunities developing in the digital world. He has worked in several executive leadership roles and has more than 20 years of financial services industry experience. Jacques currently serves on the executive of SanlamConnect and the Boards of Directors of Succession Financial Planning and IFA Net Distribution Services.

Ryk Van Niekerk

Ryk is an award-winning financial journalist with more than 25 years of experience. He currently serves as the editor of Moneyweb and hosts RSG Geldsake, the most widely listened-to business radio show in South Africa. Before joining Moneyweb in 2011, he was the national editor of Media24’s daily business publications. Ryk is a respected public speaker and facilitator, and a regular commentator on political and economic matters across both local and international media platforms. He specializes in financial investigative journalism and has won numerous journalism awards throughout his career. He holds an MBL from Unisa and an M.Phil in Journalism from Stellenbosch University—both awarded cum laude.

Katherine Gibson

Katherine Gibson is Deputy Commissioner for South Africa’s Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). Recognising how a fair and inclusive financial sector is the engine of inclusive economic growth, she has been instrumental in developing the conduct “peak” of South Africa’s Twin Peaks framework. Committed to public service, Katherine developed an interest in trade and competition before moving to financial sector policy and working with South Africa’s National Treasury (Department of Finance) for more than a decade. Over this time, she supported development of crucial law reform, like the Financial Sector Regulation Act that gave effect to Twin Peaks, as well as the modernisation of the Financial Markets Act and Regulation 28 of the Pension Funds Act (that provides for permissible investments). Katherine currently oversees the Regulatory Policy and Enforcement Divisions of the FSCA and promotes strategic projects related to conduct and financial consumer protection law, unclaimed assets, sustainable finance, fintech and suptech. She is the FSCA Trustee on the Financial Services Consumer Education Foundation. Holding an MCom (Economics) degree achieved cum laude from the University of Natal Durban, Katherine believes in ongoing professional development, most recently participating in the 2024 HBS-Accion Program on Strategic Leadership in Inclusive Finance. Katherine advocates for diversity and tolerance as the glue for an effective organisation and community.

Dawie de Villiers

Dawie was appointed group chief executive of Alexforbes in 2018. Prior to his appointment, he was the chief executive officer of Sanlam Employee Benefits, a position he held since 2013.

He started his career at Sanlam as an actuary in 1993 in Sanlam Life Insurance, before assuming several senior executive positions in the business over a period of 25 years. During this period, he broadened his business acumen, while gaining an in-depth knowledge of the technicalities and markets served by each of these units.

Dawie has a wealth of experience in the employee benefits and investment management industry and believes that the employee benefits industry can have a huge influence in South Africa by really changing people’s lives through enabling financial peace of mind.

He is at the helm of a strategic shift at Alexforbes, charting a course for the company’s growth and impact. Under his leadership, the company is poised to extend its leading positions across administration, retirements, healthcare, and asset management capabilities.

Olwethu Masanabo, CFP®

Olwethu has over 18 years of experience in financial services. She is a CFP® professional and a registered member of the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI).

She has worked in financial services in various roles in financial planning within the banks and insurance companies in South Africa.

She is the incoming Chairperson of the board, Chairperson of the D& I Committee, and Chairperson of the Nominations and Compliance Review Committee at the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI). She has also served as the Chairperson of the Human Capital Committee at the FPI.

Additionally, she currently serves as an Independent Trustee of the Old Mutual Black Distributor’s Trust (BDT), and a Non-Executive Director of the Old Mutual Black Distributors SPV (BDSPV) registered in the United Kingdom (UK).

Olwethu is an International Speaker and is also known to share the local stage with other industry leaders in thought- leadership discussions around industry matters. She was the winner of the FPI Diversity and Inclusion Award 2023 and is passionate about transformation.

Werner Bosman

Werner Bosman is the Chief Executive Officer of The Mutual System, an exciting new initiative currently being developed by PPS (Professional Provident Society) to create a next-generation mutual ecosystem for its members. Werner is a Chartered Accountant (SA) and a Harvard Business School alumnus, with a strong track record in finance, strategy, operations, and innovation. He previously served as CEO of PPS Short-Term Insurance. Werner is passionate about building solutions that enable financial resilience and long-term value for professionals. He has a keen interest in artificial intelligence and exponential technologies, and the transformative opportunities they present. A committed fitness enthusiast, Werner can usually be found at the gym early each morning.

Francois du Toit, CFP®

Francois du Toit, CFP®, is the founder and director of PROpulsion, where financial planners come together to learn, grow, and thrive. Drawing from nearly three decades in financial services, including time as an independent planner himself, he truly understands what it takes to build a successful practice. At PROpulsion, he helps planners master everything from core planning skills to practice management and clever uses of technology.

Samkelo Mkhize

With over a decade of hands-on experience in Marketing Strategy, Brand Management, and Digital Communication, Samkelo Mkhize is a passionate storyteller and seasoned marketing professional who thrives at the intersection of creativity, strategy, and impact.

Currently serving as the Marketing Manager at the Financial Planning Institute of Southern Africa (FPI), Samkelo leads national campaigns that elevate the visibility of financial planning as a profession, while driving meaningful consumer engagement and member value. His career spans across both corporate and consumer-focused environments, with a strong track record of building trusted brands, launching high-impact initiatives, and shaping narratives that resonate.

Samkelo has spearheaded multiple integrated marketing campaigns, member engagement strategies, and digital brand revamps, always with a keen eye on measurable results, audience connection, and inclusive storytelling. His experience extends to brand positioning, stakeholder communications, and public advocacy, making him an influential voice in the evolving landscape of financial services marketing.

Chris Bertish

Chris Bertish is a professional speaker, big wave surfing Mavericks champion, stand up paddle board Guinness World Record holder, best-selling author, award-winning film director, philanthropist, conservationist, and ocean pioneer.

He was recently recognized as one of the Top 5 Motivational Speakers in South Africa and one of the best Inspirational Speakers in the World. Chris was selected as one of the Genius 100-Global Visionaries for the future, by the Einstein Institute, both for excellence in his disciplines and universal global positive influence, along with other fellow visionaries like, Deepak Chopra, Sir Ken Robinson and Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Sir Richard Branson and Dr. Silvia Earle.

In June / July 2022, Chris Wing Foiled, solo and unsupported, across the Pacific Ocean, from California to Hawaii, over 49 days and 2500 Nautical Miles, becoming the first person to wing foil across any ocean.  A project powered by nature, for nature. All tied into the UN’s 17 global SDG’s, while raising money and creating awareness on Climate Change, Ocean Health issues and the action needed to get down to carbon net zero by 2030.

In 2023, Chris just launched his second Book “All in!” on his incredible solo Stand up Paddle journey. The new book has already graced the Best Sellers list in South Africa and Chris is currently doing a Roadshow across America, launching his new book and Speaking to and inspiring audiences across the USA and Canada.

In August 2023, Chris launched the ALL IN!- Limited Edition, Eco Series Book (only 10xbooks in the world), which is the most sustainable book ever printed. A book created as an example to the world of what’s possible.

 

Nici Macdonald, CFP®  FPSA® 

Nici Macdonald, CFP® FPSA® is the current Head of Certification at the Financial Planning Institute. She has extensive industry experience as a financial planner and practice manager. Her previous roles also include advising clients on fiduciary matters. For many years Nici was also closely involved with the University of the Free State in setting of examination papers, developing study material and online lecturing for the Diploma in Estate and Trust Administration.

Nici holds a Master’s Degree in Private Law from the University of the Free State and an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning. She is a member of the FPI and FISA.

Tashia Batstone, MBA, FCPA, FCA, ICD.D   

Tashia Batstone is the President and CEO of FP Canada™, the leading education, certification and oversight body for the financial planning profession in Canada. Since joining the organization, some of her biggest priorities have included promoting financial well-being for all Canadians; improving access to financial planning services; and increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the profession.

Tashia has laid the groundwork for transformational change with the development of a five-year Strategic Plan. The plan outlines a path forward in which FP Canada will lead the growth of the financial planning profession and meet its goal for IMAGINE 2030, a bold vision for a future where all Canadians enjoy financial well-being.

Also under Tashia’s leadership, FP Canada’s education division, the FP Canada Institute™, launched technical education for aspiring financial planners. This created the first end-to-end education program of its kind for financial planners in Canada.

Before joining FP Canada, Tashia held senior executive positions at the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and also served five years as CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Newfoundland and Labrador. She played a significant role in the unification of the accounting profession in Canada and led the development of the CPA Certification Program.

In 2023, Tashia was awarded the Alumni of the Year Award from Memorial University of Newfoundland—the highest distinction bestowed by the university.

Tashia currently serves on the Board of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), and the Canadian Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC). She is a past board trustee for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and remains deeply committed to the advancement of women.

Henry van Deventer

Henry is the Head of Omni-Channel Advice for Liberty within the Standard Bank Group. In this capacity his responsibilities include heading up global research and thought leadership relating to trends in client engagement, financial advice and advice-related technology, and translating this into working solutions.

 

For the last two decades, Henry’s focus has been on building, developing, and delivering financial planning and investment solutions to independent and tied financial advisers, leading banks and global financial services companies. He has a specific focus on helping such businesses evolve and optimise their value propositions to help them establish world-leading, advice-driven practices. Henry features regularly in the media and has spoken and lectured internationally as an authority on financial planning, behavioural finance, and personal financial strategy.

 

Henry obtained his B.Comm. (Law) and LLB degrees at the University of Pretoria and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of the Free State.
