The FPI Financial Planner of the Year Award is the highest accolade a professional financial planner can obtain. Jointly sponsored by the Personal Finance and the University of the Free State's Centre for Financial Planning Law, the adjudication process starts with the completion of an entry form and submission of a portfolio of evidence (replaces the case study from 2011). This is followed by a site visit and panel interview. Entrants must qualify to go through to each round. Independent judges range from academics, industry experts and FPI board members who participate in each round. The finalists and overall winner are announced at the FPI Annual Convention.
The winner is acclaimed at the FPI Annual Convention as the Financial Planner of the Year and is awarded with the following:- The Financial Planner of the Year trophy and a certificate.
- Appointed as the FPI and/or CFP® professional brand ambassador and receives the necessary media and other training to be the media and other industry event spokesperson.
- Profiled in the FPI magazine convention issue, FPI website, Personal Finance newspaper and magazine and other media as well as receiving benefit from on-going significant exposure in the media during the year.
- A return economy air ticket and attendance costs to attend an international financial planning conference of the winner's choice (excluding accommodation costs).
- Free attendance at one FPI Annual Convention (excluding travel and accommodation costs).
